Testimonials from Past Events:

Donna P Parker from the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS-

There I was, at the Southern Women’s Show in April at the NC State Fairgrounds, volunteering at the NC Homeowners Alliance booth.  I didn’t know what to expect, but I wanted to help out.  Since I am a member of the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS and local, it was simple for me to set aside the time.

It was such an experience!  I got to talk to lots of people about the importance of learning what was happening in our General Assembly with regards to homeowner issues.  So many folks thanked me for letting them know how they could become aware of what was being discussed before the final decisions hit the newspapers.  People of all ages were interested in our message, which made me feel good.  It was easy to start a conversation with most of them, and I learned a lot about their concerns… including homeowner’s insurance rate hikes, taxes, transportation, and even Home Owner Associations.  When they learned I was a real estate agent, they began to ask me questions about the current housing market.

All in all, it was a satisfying experience.  I plan to volunteer again!!

Christina Asbury from the Topsail Island Association of REALTORS-

Realtor members of  the Topsail Island Association of Realtors manned a booth at the 75th Anniversary of Camp Davis in Holly Ridge NC on Aril 25th, and we distributed market statistics, homeownership benefits, and Realtor balloons to the kids at the event. The main focus of our group was to educate the public about the NC Homeowners Alliance and it's goals to educate consumers about legislation that may affect the rights of property owners, encourage homeownership, and keep insurance rates fair and affordable. Being on the coast of NC, insurance was a hot topic, and several consumers thanked us for being their voice when they don't know what's going on or whom to contact. Nearly 50 Alliance sign up cards were filled out that day, even though the weather didn't fully cooperate! We found it to be very easy to talk about the advantages of joining the NC Homeowners Alliance and most of the homeowners were very receptive. A special thanks to Realtor Sue Medlin Smith for collecting the most sign up cards that day!

Town Hall with Rep. MaryAnn Black

Members of the North Carolina Homeowners Alliance and the Durham Regional Association of REALTORS® know that we all benefit from strong relationships with our local elected officials. That’s why we are partnering to host Representative MaryAnn Black for a forum on homeowner issues on December 5th from 4:45 PM to 6:15 PM. This event is a great opportunity to meet your legislator, and I strongly encourage you to invite your neighbors and friends. We want to make this event a true homeownership forum.

The General Assembly is starting to set their priorities for next year and homeowners deserve to be part of the discussion. We are holding this open forum so that attendees will have a chance to ask their legislators a few questions about issues at the General Assembly.

There are a wide range of issues at the General Assembly that have a direct impact on homeowners, including the mortgage interest deduction, orphaned roads, and transparency on insurance rates. So please encourage homeowners to register and attend!

We will provide dinner and hors d'oeuvres for attendees; the doors open at 4:45pm, the event starts promptly at 5:15pm and lasts one hour.
